PRESS RELEASE: How to localize/write it appropriately.
- Do not forget, “Localization is different from mere translation”.
- The following advices are based on my experiences. But, no guarantee. Please don't forget "Self-Responsibility".
Basic style:
Almost same as you used to. In other words, “Write as if newspapers report*”.
- official company name
- issue date of the announcement
- main title
- subtitle (if you need)
- summary
- detailed information
- boilerplate
company profile, other profiles in case (mentioned persons, mentioned partners), contact info for reporters, contact info for other stake holders, copyright notification
*newspapers : the newspapers in your TARGET COUNTRY.
Do as much as possible:
Include the following items that are concrete and detailed;
- Target Segments
- User benefits
- Sales/contact channels for your target customers to reach your products
- Your aim/goal(s)
- Position of the product you announced in your whole product line-up or in the target market
- Influences to the target segments/the related markets/other people IN JAPAN
- Add product specification sheet
- If you have, give them stories related to the subject. Especially, Japanese reporters (also) like case studies (success stories). Of course, you can distribute them as other press releases.
Do not:
- Lies
- Hypes
- Exaggerated adjectives or dangling modifiers.
Japanese reporters like “low-fat content”. Make your contents SIMPLE, CLEAR AND CONSISTENT as possible. - “Quote (of the executives or other important stake holders saying)”.
You can include them into the contents. Though, very few Japanese reporters will read the quote.
If you think the content is useful for you, could you vote? -- yes.
CAUTION:
Any information in this page is NOT STATIC. Thus, the content you read now may be not the latest. When you use this page, don't forget the word, Self-responsibility.
Anyway, if you give me your feedback include the latest info, additional ones and so on, I'll update the contents. Please feel free to send me your comments, questions, requests! THANK YOU!!
